Our homes and offices can no longer be protected using a simple lock and key. There are many more complex innovations that are employed in this day and age to secure buildings. The reasons for these innovations are many; including the fact that simple locks can be easily manipulated by lay men to break into homes and workplaces.
The humble lock has now been replaced by something more complicated that provides a better defence and this as an electronic lock. As the name suggests the lock functions with the help of electricity, ensuring maximum security to those who choose to use electronic locks. This electronic locking system is more expensive and more complicated than a regular locking system but it is also much more effective.
Electronic locks are fitted into gates or doors that are electronically controlled or they are attached to gates and doors as a complete separate electronic locking system – a stand-alone, electronic device. An electronic lock functions on the basis of a key control that can be used by adding and removing from lock cylinders.
An electronic lock requires power to function and without it, the device is useless. However with the use of electricity this lock is very easy to use and there is generally a button or a switch that controls the lock. The locks are made to work using solenoids, magnets and motors.
However there is one downside to using an electronic lock and that is it cannot be used when electricity fails or when there is a power outage.
