Clothes, shoes and bags are available in great detail in the market today. We need to go shopping to purchase any of the above and a great deal of thought goes into purchasing goods. Today, a lock has become a commodity that is available in a number of varieties as well.
The days of a simple lock and key are long gone and various kinds of locks have originated in different parts of the world. With each new decade, a new kind of innovation came about even in the lock-key industry.
Today, locks can be either mechanical lock of electro-mechanical locks. Lock systems can involve key cards, which are shaped like credit cards and have magnetic strips that are recognised by the system that then allows doors to open. Then there are combination locks that have a password or sequence of characters. These kinds of locks are very effective because they lead to very restricted entry and help people keep tabs on who is entering their homes or offices.
One kind of historical lock is the Chinese warded lock which was followed by Egyptian pin tumbler locks that were bulky bronze and iron locks. As time passed, different countries started inventing their own locks and some of the types were wafer tumbler locks that were very affordable. Lever locks were invented for jails as these locks were very difficult to pick.
Other generally known locks are tubular locks and electronic locks. Most electronic locks can be used for a variety of purposes, from locking home doors, to car doors to cupboards.
